국제앰네스티, 런던 폭탄테러 강력히 비난
국제앰네스티(사무총장 아이렌 칸)는 7일 수많은 사람들의 목숨을 빼앗고 치명적인 부상을 입힌 동시다발 폭탄테러를 강력히 비난하는 성명서를 발표했다. 7일 영국수도 런던 시내 중심가에서 발생한 이날 폭탄테러는 6개의 지하철역과 한 개의 버스에서 발생했다.
아이렌 칸 국제앰네스티 사무총장은 “7일 발생한 몰상식한 테러행위로 인한 희생자들에게 우선 조의와 애도를 표한다”고 밝히고, “통근시민들을 대상으로 한 테러는 인권에 대한 가장 비열한 공격이며, 결코 정당화될 수 없다”고 비난했다.
그는 또 “우리 모두의 잘못으로 인해 이러한 비극이 초래되었지만, 우리 공동의 인권애와 신념은 이러한 공포를 결속력과 행동으로 전환해야만 한다”며“지금은 우리가 두려움을 희망으로, 나태를 행동으로, 무관심을 결속력으로 극복해야할 때”라고 강조했다.
아이렌 칸 사무총장은 이를 위해서 특히무기 거래에 관한 국제 표준을 제정, 폭탄 등 무기 남용으로인한 비극을 사전에 방지해야 할 것을 다시 한번 촉구했다.
한편, 국제앰네스티, 옥스팜, IANSA는 지난 2003년 10월부터전 세계적으로 무기거래조약을 구축하기 위한 무기통제켐페인을 시작했으며, 브라질, 말리, 마케도냐, 코스타리카, 핀란드와 네덜란드를 비롯한 많은 국가들이 이에 동참하고 있다.

United Kingdom: Amnesty International condemns bomb attacks in London
Amnesty International condemns in the strongest possible terms the multiple bombings that have claimed an unconfirmed number of lives and seriously injured many more people in London today. Explosions have been reported at six Underground stations and on one bus.
“Our thoughts and sympathy are first and foremost with those who have become the victims of senseless violence this morning,” said Irene Khan, Secretary General of Amnesty International.
“At this moment, more than ever, we must overcome fear with hope, inertia with action and indifference with solidarity. Our common
vulnerability makes us all a part of this tragedy, but our common humanity and conviction in human rights must convert the sense of fear into solidarity and action.”
Deliberately attacking civilians can never be justified. Targeting commuters going about their daily business shows complete contempt for the most fundamental principles of humanity. To the extent that these bombings are part of a widespread attack on the civilian population of the United Kingdom in furtherance of an organization’s policy, they would constitute a crime against humanity.
These attacks must stop. Those responsible must be brought to justice in proceedings which meet international standards.
