11월 2일 이스라엘 점령지역 서안(West Bank)지구에 구금된 팔레스타인 인권 활동가 바셈 타미미(BassemTamimi)의 아들(16세)이 이스라엘 군인에 의해 체포되었다. 팔레스타인 지역에 침범하는 이스라엘 이주자들에 대한 정기적으로 열리는 주간시위 도중 발생한 일이다.
2일(금요일) 오후 라말라(Ramallah)에서 북서쪽으로 21km 떨어진 알 나비 살레(al-NabiSaleh)의 서안지구에서 시위 중이던 와드 타미미(Wa’edTamimi)는 다른 활동가 4명과 함께 체포되었다.
앤 해리슨(Ann Harrison) 국제앰네스티 중동 북아프리카 부국장은 ”이날 마을에서 평화롭게 걷고 있었던 와드 타미미를 체포한 것은 바셈 타미미 활동가와 가족, 그리고 알 나비 살레 공동체에 대한 이스라엘 군대의 끊임없는 괴롭힘”을 말한다며 “이러한 인권침해는 반드시 중단되어야 한다”고 전했다.
더불어 해리슨 부국장은 “이날 와드 타미미와 함께 체포된 4명이 변호사를 선임할 수 있도록 허용해야 하고, 그들이 명확히 인식될만한 범죄위반으로 기소되지 않는 한, 즉각적으로 석방되어야 한다. 타미미의 아버지 바셈은 양심수이며, 이스라엘의 불법적 정착지 확장에 평화적으로 대항했다는 이유로 홀로 수감되어 있다. 그는 즉각적이고 조건없이 석방되어야 한다”고 말했다.
나리만 타미미(NarimanTamimi)는 “나는 한 군인이 내 아들을 난폭하게 끌어내어 곧바로 지프에 넣는 것을 보았다”고 말하며 당시 목격한 아들의 체포과정을 국제앰네스티에 전했다. 그는 또한 “지금 너무 힘들고 걱정이 된다. 무엇을 해야 할지 잘 모르겠다”고 말했다.
와드 타미미는 라말라의 북쪽에 위치한 샬벤야민(Sha’ar Benyamin)에 있는 경찰서로 붙잡혀 갔다.
샬벤야민에 위치한 슈퍼마켓에서 비폭력 시위 직후 체포된 바셈 타미미는 10월 24일부터 지금까지 구금되어있다. 그는 오페르 군사 재판소(Ofer Military Court)에 출두한 이후 추가적인 징역형에 직면해 있다.
서안지구에 있는 모든 이스라엘 정착지는 국제법하에서 불법이다. 국제앰네스티는 이스라엘 시민의 거주지를 줄여나가는 첫 번째 단계로써 정착지 공사와 확장 중단을 요청하고 있다.
Israeli soldiers arrest son of detained Palestinian activist at West Bank protest
The 16-year-old son of BassemTamimi, a detained Palestinian rights activist in the occupied West Bank, was himself arrested by Israeli soldiers today during the regular weekly protest against the encroachment of Israeli settlers onto Palestinian land.
Wa’edTamimi was arrested along with four activists during the demonstration on Friday afternoon in the West Bank village of al-NabiSaleh, 21km northwest of Ramallah.
“Today’s arrest of Wa’edTamimi while he was walking peacefully in his village points to the continuing harassment of activist BassemTamimi, his family, and the community of al-NabiSaleh by Israeli military forces,” said Ann Harrison, Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Deputy Director. “This harassment must stop”.
“Wa’edTamimi and the four others arrested in al-NabiSaleh today must be allowed access to lawyers and should be released immediately unless they are to be charged with a recognizably criminal offence. His father Bassem is a prisoner of conscience, held solely for peacefully protesting Israel’s illegal settlement expansion, and must be released immediately and unconditionally.”
NarimanTamimi told Amnesty International how she witnessed her son’s arrest: “I saw him being dragged violently by a soldier who immediately put him in a jeep,” she said. “Right now I am very tired and worried, and I am not sure what to do.”
Wa’edTamimi was taken to the police station in Sha’ar Benyamin settlement north of Ramallah.
BassemTamimi has been detained since his arrest on 24 October following a non-violent demonstration in a supermarket in the settlement of Sha’ar Benjamin. He faces a further prison sentence after appearing before the Ofer Military Court on Wednesday.
All Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are illegal under international law. Amnesty International is calling for their construction and expansion to stop as a first step towards removing the Israeli civilians living there.
