국제앰네스티와 소파사운즈는 세계적인 대규모 난민 연대 콘서트 ‘Give a Home’에 참여하는 뮤지션들을 추가로 공개했다. 그래미 수상자 에드 시런(Ed Sheeran)뿐만 아니라, 아일랜드의 블루스 락 뮤지션 호지에(Hozier), 멕시코계 미국인 팝 듀오이자 그래미상 수상자 제시앤조이(Jesse & Joy), 세계적인 이탈리아계 작곡가 루도비코 에이나우디(Ludovico Einaudi), 대표적인 아랍계 인디밴드 마쉬루아 레일라(Mashrou’ Leila) 등이 추가 라인업에 이름을 올렸다. 세계 각지 사람들의 집에서 진행될 이 행사는 9월 20일에 열린다.
‘Give a Home’ 행사는 추가 라인업이 공개되기 이전부터 이미 유명 아티스트 수백 명이 참여해 화제를 모았다. 일찌감치 참여 뮤지션 명단에 이름을 올렸던 에드 시런(Ed Sheeran)은 미국의 워싱턴 D.C에서, 포실스(Fossils)는 인도 콜카타에서 공연할 예정이다. 프레실리 그라운드(Freshly Ground)는 남아프리카공화국 케이프타운에서 공연하며, 도터(Daughter)와 케이트 템페스트(Kate Tempest)는 다른 아티스트들과 런던에서 멋진 공연을 선보일 예정이다.
한국의 서울 공연에는 YB와 우버퓨즈(Ooberfuse)가 함께 할 예정이다.

멕시코시티에서 공연하는 제시앤조이는 ‘Give a Home’ 콘서트에 참여하며 다음과 같이 전했다. “국제앰네스티와 소파사운즈가 주최하는 ‘Give a Home’ 콘서트에 참여하게 되어 영광입니다. 전세계적으로 벌어지고 있는 난민 위기는 그 규모가 역사적으로 전례가 없는 수준에 이르렀습니다. 이러한 위기를 막기 위해 지구촌 구석구석, 가깝게는 우리집 뒷뜰에서부터 나서야 합니다. 난민들은 가장 기본적인 자유와 정의, 평등조차 누리지 못하고 세계를 떠돌고 있습니다. 이들 난민 모두와 함께 연대하겠습니다. 음악과 예술에는 국경이 없습니다. 우리는 모두 하나입니다.”

‘Give a Home’ 콘서트는 세계 난민의 날인 6월 20일에 공개됐다. 이번 행사는 자신의 집을 떠나야 했던 난민들에게 연대를 보여주고, 난민 위기에 대한 해결책 마련이 시급하다는 인식을 널리 알리는 것이 목적이다. 세계 각지의 200여개 도시에서 300회 이상의 공연이 진행되며, 팬들은 세계적인 뮤지션과 난민 아티스트, 활동가 등을 집으로 초대해 공연을 개최할 수 있다.
이번 콘서트는 유명 아티스트들과 나란히 난민들로 구성된 밴드도 무대에 설 예정이다. 피아니스트 압바스 압부드(Abbas Abboud), 가수 겸 구어 예술가 바셀 자라(Basel Zaraa), 시리아 뮤지션 오케스트라(Orchestra of Syrian Musicians) 등이 그 주인공이다.
캐나다 팝 듀오 패로우(Faarrow)인 이만 하시((Iman Hashi)와 시함 하시(Siham Hashi) 자매도 이번 행사에 참가한다. “우리에게 음악은 자유였습니다. 우리 노래를 듣는 사람들이 무엇이든 할 수 있다는 희망을 얻길 바라요. 지금 세계 각국 정부는 난민 위기가 극복 불가능한 수준이라고 말하고 있지만, 우리는 그게 사실이 아니라는 걸 알고 있습니다. ‘Give a Home’ 공연을 통해, 지금의 난민 위기를 해결할 수 있는 힘이 모두에게 있다는 걸 깨닫는 계기가 됐으면 좋겠습니다.” 두 사람은 소말리아에서 태어나 캐나다로 이주한 난민이다. 패로우의 공연은 미국 로스앤젤레스에서 진행될 예정이다.
‘Give a Home’은 국제앰네스티의 ‘ I Welcome refugee(나는 난민을 환영합니다)’ 캠페인의 일환이다. 앰네스티는 이 캠페인을 통해 난민 수용에 적극적으로 나설 것을 각국 정부에 요구하며 압력을 가하고 있다. 국제앰네스티 조사 결과 전세계 국민 80%가 난민 수용을 환영하는 입장이라고 밝혔지만, 여전히 각국 정부는 그에 따른 역할을 수행하지 못하고 있다.
‘Give a Home’ 콘서트
‘Give a Home’ 콘서트는 세계 최대 인권단체 국제앰네스티와 런던의 소파사운즈가 공동 주최하는 행사다. 소파사운즈는 세계 각지의 일반 가정집에서 비밀 콘서트를 개최하는 것으로 이름을 알렸다.
팬들은 행사 공식 사이트(sofarsounds.com/giveahome)를 통해 9월 10일까지 초대권에 응모할 수 있다. 원하는 도시와 공연을 선택하고 응모하면 당첨될 경우 1인 2매의 초대권을 받을 수 있다. 초대권 응모와 함께 기부금을 내는 것도 가능하다. 이렇게 모금된 금액은 국제앰네스티의 난민인권 캠페인 활동에 사용된다.
세계 난민 위기 대응
세계적인 난민 위기에 전 세계 2,200만명의 삶이 달라졌다. 세계적인 부유국으로 꼽히는 국가들은 이러한 난민을 거의 받아들이지 않은 채로 의무를 전혀 분담하지 않고 있다. 현재 전세계 193개국 중 단 10개국만이 절반 이상의 난민을 수용하고 있다.
국제앰네스티의 ‘ I Welcome(나는 환영합니다)’ 캠페인은 난민이 국가의 보호를 받고 인권을 충분히 누릴 수 있도록 정부가 더 많은 조치에 나서야 한다고 세계 각국에 촉구하는 활동이다. 또한 지역사회에 기반한 난민 지원 프로그램을 운영하는 등, 이 활동을 통해 난민과의 풀뿌리 연대를 구축하는 것이 목표다.

1,000 musicians will perform all over the world for Amnesty International and Sofar Sounds’ refugee solidarity concerts on 20 September.
Amnesty International and Sofar Sounds have added new acts to perform intimate shows for the huge global refugee concert series Give a Home. Added to the line-up are Irish Blues-Rock singer Hozier, Grammy award-winning Mexican-American pop duo Jesse & Joy, world-renowned Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi, Arabic indie heavyweights Mashrou’ Leila, and many more. The intimate concerts will take place in people’s homes around the world on 20 September.
The stars join a line-up of hundreds of artists that already include Ed Sheeran, who will play in Washington D.C., Fossils, slated to play Kolkata, Freshly Ground, set to play in Cape Town and Daughter and Kate Tempest, who will be among those playing in London. The full list is available on sofarsounds.com/giveahome, where fans have until 10 September to apply to win tickets for the shows taking place in their city.
“It is our honor to join Amnesty International and Sofar Sounds’ Give a Home concerts. The worldwide refugee crisis has reached historic proportions; we must take action from our own backyards to every corner of the globe. We stand with all refugees in their quest for the most basic freedoms; justice and equality. Art and music surpass borders: we are one,” said Jesse & Joy, who will play in Mexico City.
Launched on 20 June on World Refugee Day, Give a Home aims to unite people in showing solidarity with those forced to flee their home and raise awareness of solutions to the refugee crisis. At 300 plus shows in more than 200 cities across multiple continents, music fans will host intimate gigs in their homes with some of the world’s biggest music stars, refugee artists and activists.
Performing alongside major artists will be refugee bands. They include pianist Abbas Abboud, singer and spoken word artist Basel Zaraa and the Orchestra of Syrian Musicians.
They also include Faarrow, a Canadian pop-duo formed by sisters Iman and Siham Hashi, who said: “Music for us has been about freedom, and we hope people listening to our songs feel like they can do anything. Right now governments around the world are trying to say the refugee crisis is impossible to solve, but we know it’s not true. We hope the Give a Home gigs inspire people to recognize that we have the power to help solve this crisis.” The sisters, who were born in Somalia but moved to Canada as refugees, will be playing in Los Angeles.
The shows are in support of Amnesty International’s I Welcome refugee campaign, which mobilizes public pressure on governments to welcome refugees. Amnesty International’s research shows that 80% of people around the world are open to welcoming refugees, yet governments are failing to do their part.

The concert series is a collaboration between Amnesty International, the world’s largest human rights organization, and Sofar Sounds, a London-based company that specializes in throwing secret concerts in people’s homes all over the world.
Give a Home is supported by VICE and Facebook Live, who will be live-streaming and promoting the concerts globally.
Fans have until 10 September to apply for tickets through sofarsounds.com/giveahome. People will can select the city and event of their choice to be in with a chance of winning two tickets. They will have the option of making a donation when applying for tickets. The funds raised by the project will support Amnesty International’s work campaigning for the rights of refugees.
Tackling the global refugee crisis
The refugee crisis affects the lives of more than 22 million people worldwide. Almost all are hosted outside the wealthiest nations, which simply aren’t doing their fair share to help. Currently just 10 of the world’s 193 countries host more than half its refugees.
Amnesty International’s ‘I Welcome’ campaign calls on all governments to do more to ensure refugees are protected and able to enjoy their human rights. The campaign also aims to build grassroots solidarity with refugees, including through community-led programs to sponsor refugees.
