푸시 라이엇 멤버 두 명을 포함한 러시아의 양심수들이 석방되었다.
그러나 양심수들의 석방에도 불구하고 러시아는 계속해서 시민사회를 괴롭힐 것이라고 국제앰네스티는 오늘 밝혔다.
“사업가 미하일 코도코프스키(Mikhail Khodorkovski), 푸시 라이엇의 마리아 알레히나(Maria Alekhina)와 나데즈다 톨로코니코바(Nadezhda Tolokonnikova) 그리고 볼로트나야 사건으로 억류되어 있던 소수의 인원들을 석방한 것은 소치 올림픽 준비를 위한 정치적 수단의 일환이며 관용의 행동으로 비쳐져서는 안 된다” 라고 국제앰네스티 존 달후센(John Dalhuisen)유럽 중앙아시아 프로그램 국장은 전했다.
국제앰네스티는 양심수들을 즉각 조건 없이 석방하라는 캠페인을 오랫동안 해왔으며 이들은 푸틴 대통령의 사면으로 풀려났다. 몇몇은 투옥 중에도 푸틴대통령의 취임을 반대하는2012볼로트나야 광장 시위대와 접촉하려고 노력했다.
“이것은 러시아의 정의가 정치화되어 가고 있다는 것을 추가로 보여주는 증거이다. 작년이 비판적이고 독립적인 목소리를 내는 공간을 특히 위축시켰다는 중대한 사실이 묻히지 않아야 할 것이다.”
또한 “이번에 석방된 이들은 오로지 자신들의 의견을 표현했다는 이유만으로 감옥에 갇혔다. 그들은 석방되었지만 혐의는 여전히 남아있다. 사면은 효율적인 사법제도의 대안이 될 수 없다.” 고 존 달후센 국장은 말했다.
“푸틴 대통령이 마침내 푸시 라이엇 멤버들을 석방한 것은 표현의 자유에 대한 터무니없는 단속과 수감사실이 큰 반향을 일으키고 상징화가 되어버린 이 사건에 대항하여 합심을 다해 활동해 준 전세계의 평범한 사람들과 유명인사들의 역할이 컸다” 고 스티븐 W. 호킨스 국제앰네스티 미국지부 사무국장이 말했다. “우리는 모든 양심수들이 석방되고 그들이 무혐의 처리가 될 수 있도록 모두 계속해서 압박을 가해야 할 것이다, 표현과 결사의 자유 그리고 LGBTI 권리를 억압하는 모든 법들이 폐지될 그 때까지, 수감되었던 푸시 라이엇 멤버들이 석방된 것은 정의를 향한 반쪽 짜리 걸음일 뿐이다”

The harassment of civil society in Russia will continue unabated despite the release of prisoners of conscience, said Amnesty International today.
The organization has long campaigned for the immediate and unconditional release of a number of prisoners of conscience (POCs) freed recently under President Putin’s amnesty. Several others being tried in connection with the 2012 Bolotnaya Square protest remain behind bars.
“The move is further proof of the politicisation of justice in Russia. It should not obscure the bigger truth that the last year has seen a significant contraction in the space allowed to critical and independent voices.
“Those that have been released were imprisoned solely for expressing their views. While they are now free, the charges against them remain. The amnesty is no substitute for an effective justice system.”
“President Putin has finally freed members of Pussy Riot thanks in part to the concerted activism of ordinary people from around the world and celebrities who protested the egregious crackdown on freedom of expression that their imprisonment came to symbolize,” said Steven W. Hawkins, executive director of Amnesty International USA. “We must keep the pressure on until all Prisoners of Conscience are released, and charges against them dropped. Until all laws that stifle the freedom of expression and assembly and LGBTI rights in Russia are repealed, freeing the imprisoned members of Pussy Riot is only a half-step to justice.”
